* One lint coated breath mint
* A faded receipt from a Star Trek convention along with one rubber Spock ear
* Fossilized stick of gum from 2001
* A key to a piece-of-crap minivan I unloaded 10 years ago
* Wadded-up tissue that had disintegrated into a pile of white ash
* A used strand of floss from a steak house
* An unwrapped tampon that had swelled up to the size of an airline pillow
* An uncapped, hairy stick of lip balm
* A petrified granola bar
* Ticket stubs to an outdoor concert where the Hubs got smashed and stumbled into the ladies room
* A champagne cork and two sea shells from a night of celebrating on the beach when we...well, you know...
* An arm from a Batman action figure
* Two quarters, a Heineken beer bottle cap and a baby's pacifier (sounds like a party to me!)
* A Barbie doll head. No comment.
* A cocktail napkin from Al and Suzy's wedding...the party lasted
longer than the marriage
* A matchbook from a hotel in Orlando where the fire alarm went off at 3:00 a.m. and we were herded like cattle out into the parking lot. I learned that people at that hour of the morning look like they belong in a circus act or an episode of Swamp People
After much consideration, I decided to leave the contents in the pockets---it was a time capsule of sorts. One day my kids will inherit the jacket and wonder about the contents. I like to keep them guessing.
I've unearthed an old jacket a few times and usually find a tube of lip gloss and a kleenex. You found real treasure there! What I'm really super jealous about is the fact that you got to go to a Star Trek convention! :-D
ReplyDeleteI had a secret crush on Spock when I was a kid.....
DeleteDarn, no bills. Every time I take out a new jacket I cross my fingers and pray for a $100 bill! I love that you're going to leave it all there, let those kids wonder!

Deletei wish there was money in my pockets!
DeleteA perv might really get off on that tampon.
ReplyDeleteGross but true!! Now I'm haunted but the visual.....
Deletelol.love the # to a turtle taxidermist. And that coat as big pockets. I know the batman limbs well...Happy new year dear friend.
ReplyDeleteI like deep pockets...Happy New Year to you, too!
Deletehaha love this. It's amazing what you can find. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd kind of scary.....
DeleteHilarious post! It was 18 degrees here this morning cold, until that first hotflash! Sounds like you found a treasure trove inside your pockets too!
ReplyDeleteAnd I LOVE treasures....just no money with this one.....or gold coins.....
DeleteNow, that's funny stuff right there :)
ReplyDeletewww.judyfromtheblock.blogspot.com
Hi Judy! You're new here, right? So happy to have you---glad you liked the post and hope you come back for more!
DeleteI was already a FB fan, but now am following via GFC & Pinterest. Found you via Thumping Thursdays. Diana
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! Thank you. I love new followers!
DeleteI'm impressed you can remember whose arm it is.
ReplyDeleteEasy---it was the weird Batman that came out many years ago--he was yellow and black. Otherwise, not a chance in hell I'd know what it was!!!
DeleteVery interesting finds in the coat pockets.
ReplyDeleteSort of like a forgotten treasure---not worth any money but the memories...priceless!
DeleteThe only thing that concerns me is the number to the turtle taxidermist! lol
ReplyDeleteI usually find money and chapstick. :)
You'd be surprised if you knew what other phone numbers I find in my coat pockets...haha just kidding! I'll take money any day over weird phone numbers.
DeleteOkay... The phone number to a "Turtle Taxidermist???" I have to know more about this...
ReplyDeleteI have to tell you though, My father was a hoarder, a real one. His house was filled from floor to ceiling with... Stuff. There were literally just narrow paths through the house betwixed the stuff. His coat rack ran the length of the hallway that led from the living room to the bed rooms. It was so full of jackets and coats you had to turn sideways to get down the hallway. There were probably 50 to 60 coats. Going through all the pockets was both fun and maddening. He liked to call himself "prepared", and every coat was stocked and ready to put on and go. Every single coat had in it's pockets, a note pad and pen, breath mints, lip balm, a lighter or matches, a package of tissues, water purification tablets, a pocket knife. And on top of all that each jacket had a selection of it's own contents depending on the purpose of the jacket. It really was kind of like some demented treasure hunt. We laughed, we cried, and at times we just said WTF... And that was just his coats.
Thanks for the laugh. I needed that. I will not however be needing any pens, pencils, notepads, lighters, pocket knives, or water purification tablets for the rest of my life.
OMG Jon, this is priceless! You have GOT to write a blog post about this!!! I can just see it now! I do have one question, though--after your father passed away, who had to clear out all his stuff?? That must have been...incredible. We really do need to explore this further....and BTW, do you have a pen I can borrow? LOL sorry--I couldn't resist!!!
DeleteHad me cracking up as always! The last jacket I found (while moving) I found a nice stick of blue eye liner and pink glitter lip gloss... I didn't know whether to laugh or cry that I use to wear that. I wont however disclose how long ago those were popular colors to wear ;)
ReplyDeletewww.sippycupsandbooze.com
I think I know the answer to that but I won't say what it is.....
DeleteHow Funny! Does FL have a winter??
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by the Thumping Thursdays Blog Hop.
Karina
http://momintheusa.blogspot.com
If you call 60 degrees a winter. Wait--it did get down to 45 one night last year--does that count?
DeleteHa!!! As Forrest Gump's Mom said... Oh, nevermind.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed... Take care, Slu
Thanks, Slu! I do love that movie....
DeleteTreasures in the pockets! :) Amazing what we keep in the pockets, isn't it? I try my best to remember to empty pockets before I put coats etc away. Remember I found 100RS (that's about $3,40) in a shirt pocket, just before the shirt went into the washing machine! And I was disappointed I didn't found more... :) I've been to FL years ago, but never thought that it gets that cold there... must be the Northern part though?
ReplyDeleteI live in the very southern part but sometimes we get a bit of a cold snap. It actually snowed here once back in the 1970's...uh-oh I am really showing my age now....
DeleteHi! I’m your newest follower on Facebook. Please stop by and say hi when you have a chance. I'm also hosting a blog hop - if you would like to join us :) Hope you're having an awesome week.
ReplyDeleteApril from:
A Mommy's Blog Design http://amblogdesign.com
Sounds like fun, April. I will definitely check out the hop!
DeleteThose are some deep pockets you have in that jacket. I couldn't stop laughing ant more than half of the stuff you found in there. I love the idea of you saving that jacket as a time capsule of sorts.
ReplyDeleteLet's just hope the kids appreciate it!
DeleteI wish winter was just approaching here! It's been cold for a couple months now where I'm at :(
ReplyDeleteSabrina

Come visit me in Florida!!!
DeleteEach year add a wrapped gift to the pockets with a coy note, something else for the kids to open one day.
ReplyDeleteYou must have had some good times since you found so many objects attached to lovely memories too. Can you imagine the shock if you had given the jacket to someone who then found a bloated tampon inside? ha ha ha ha
Great post.
They would have discovered all my deep dark secrets!! But I love your idea of a wrapped gift in the pockets--a tiny one, that is....
DeleteWow! Who knew that much stuff could fit inside jacket pockets?
ReplyDeleteI love that you will leave the jacket to your kids as a time capsule or memento. Just be sure to ditch the stuff that can mold, like that old mint. :)
Cheers,
Kristina
I like deep pockets and I cannot lie....yeah, I need to ditch that fuzzy mint!
DeleteGreat post! very engagin content! From Never give up
ReplyDeleteWell then I'm glad you liked it!

Zero temps??? Where do you live--Alaska?? Yikes! I like cold weather but that's a bit much even for me!
DeleteOh that made me laugh out loud. I pulled an old purse out of the closet the other day and proceeded to let me six year old eat a piece of gum out of it. I was thinking, how bad could gum turn? By the look on his face, pretty bad. He ran to the trash can and spit it out. Good to know.....
ReplyDeleteFound you from the More Than Mommies Mixer.
Oh this is too funny! You should write a post about that! I wrote one last year called "Old Bag", about this very experience. When you find an old purse or jacket and find the stuff inside, it really is like a time capsule! Thanks and welcome to my site, Trish. I'll be sure to stop by and check out your blog!
DeleteNo wonder it was snug in the waist...those pockets were stuffed to the gills! By the way the thermometer reads 28 degrees here this morning with a windchill that make it feel like 15 degrees. BRRRRRR. Thank you for linking up with us once again at the MTMmixer. As usual--your blog does not disappoint! Lots of fun! Happy 2013!
ReplyDeleteAwww thanks, Janene! I love participating in your blog hop!
DeleteOh my gosh! We are soul sistas! I literally just did this with my winter coat last night. It was SO cold here and, lo and behold, I found some cold, hard cash that amounted to 7 dollars! Yay, me! I have to say, though, that you found a lot more stuff than me! :)
ReplyDeleteI FINALLY got around to adding you to my blog roll. I don't know why it took so long. It was so easy to do. It's just that I always assume that anything having to do with computers will take forever!!
Hey Soul Sista from another Mista! You crack me up. Lucky you to find money. I just get hairy breath mints. Thank you for adding me to your blog roll. I officially love you now <3
DeleteThis is mildly depressing... I thought that my the time my kids reach a certain age, I'd reclaim my pockets. No? They will forever be filled with the debris of life?
ReplyDeleteGod I love that--"debris of life". Why didn't I think of that? But yeah, be prepared for every old jacket and purse to be filled with mini time capsules!
DeleteIt was 8 degrees this morning!! I could have used that coat! I must hear about the turtle taxidermist. As for the enlarged tampon and batman arm? Yeah, I know right where you were in life. All I'm left with now is a dryer sheet for static and a Lorazepam.
ReplyDeleteI'll trade you that Lorazepan for the rubber Spock ear!
DeleteOne never knows when a Spock ear will come in handy!
DeleteMade me smile! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSo glad it did!
DeleteHi there - new follower from the blog hop! Love your blog and can't wait to read more! Happy New Year! www.mendezmanor.com

ReplyDeleteThis is like a post I did once on what I found in my purse.....
hmmm - think I'll repost that one!
You're too funny
XOX
I did a funny one last year about my purse too, called, "Old Bag". Then I came across this jacket and, well, it just HAD to be written!
DeleteFound you from the Pretty Little Inspirations hop, and have decided I MUST follow you! You have a way with words - who would've thought the contents of jacket pockets could be so entertaining!
ReplyDeleteIf you think my jacket is entertaining, you should see what is in some of my old purses haha!
Deleteloved how u ended it.. he he..

Thanks, Megha! Glad to have you here!
DeleteThis was hilarious!! I died when you wrote the tampon had swelled to the size of an airline pillow bwahahaha! Too funny, only you could make discovering an old leather jacket this funny.
ReplyDeleteAwww thanks, Shawn! You made my day by saying this!
DeleteThanks for stopping by, Diana. I'll be happy to check out your site!
ReplyDeleteHi, I just love your blog title and blog! I'm visiting for the Fun Friday Blog-hop, and am happy to have found your fresh and lovely blog!!! Thanks for all the follows---I appreciate it!
DeleteHa! Love it. I am usually thrilled to find a chapstick or a dollar bill, but all this stuff would make for a very cool time capsule indeed. Definitely save it! And thanks for linking up with the #MTMmixer.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to have found money in there but that never happens to me.....
DeleteHey it was kind of touchy to read this blog.. Time flies away v.fast. Isn't it?? And we are just left wid the memories.... which are worth cherishing.. :)
ReplyDeleteEven I find my childhood stuff sometime in some corner of my house, and i can understand how it feels. They are realy priceless.
In some ways it is sad--a reminder of my youth and days gone by when my kids were so little. But the moments also made me laugh and realize what a rich life I have had!
DeleteIsn't it amazing what we can find in our pockets and purses from years ago... I have had similar objects but not soo many, lol :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a hoarder of sorts when it comes to pockets and old purses....
DeleteHaha, that's very funny--esp. about the tampon. I hate when that happens! Your "time capsule" sounds a helluva lot more interesting than mine would be. All I ever find in my pockets are lint and used tissues. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI'm still hoping to find a winning lotto ticket...you ever know.....
DeleteJust stopping by and following from the Aloha blog hop. That is too funny. Last winter I put on my jacket to find a my daughter's camera. We had been fussing at her for losing it that whole year. oops:)
ReplyDeleteMakes you feel kinda bad when that happens, doesn't it? Been there done that!
DeleteGood Lord how do you keep up with all of these sites???
ReplyDeleteWow, your pockets are really that deep, I never use mine :-) Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteAs you can see, I HAVE to have deep pockets or large purses because I'm a pack rat!
DeleteIt sounds like you have a fun house over there. :)
ReplyDeleteWe certainly do--never a dull moment at the Doyle house!
DeleteHahaha...too funny! I agree, leave it for the kids! Thanks so much for stopping by and following...following you back. Looking forward to reading more! Have an awesome week!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the follow, Michell. Glad you liked what you read and hope to see you back here again.
DeleteIf I found my mom's old jacket and found those things I'd have dozens of questions. The first of which would be 'where has this thing been?'
ReplyDeleteMaybe it was hidden for a reason...ya never know....
DeletePlease consider removing some of the things from the "time capsule." Looking closely at all those items, I have a feeling that they might combine together and turn into a slimy, scary swamp man after a few more years!
ReplyDeleteHahaha I am afraid you may be correct!
DeleteYou're so funny :)
ReplyDeleteNew follower from blog hop , come to my blog sometimes :)

ReplyDeleteStopping by to return the favor, thanks for linking up with the GFC Collective :)
I would turn into a human popsicle if I lived in MN!!
DeleteI used to live in Florida! My father had a stroke in Sept. and my daughter and I had to search Miami for winter clothing so we could go and visit and not freeze in Texas!

ReplyDeletehttp://willyousignmyyearbook.blogspot.com/
Oh my gosh I cannot even imagine how cold that must be! Last time I was in that kind of weather was 19 years ago on a winter trip to Montana. Brrrr!!!
DeleteI would trade that 60 degrees with our 20-30's here in Indiana :)

ReplyDeleteIt's always fun to find a bit of nostalgia inside a pocket or a purse!
Deleteonly 2 quarters? Where's all the riches woman? i love that you've decided to leave it all there though....too funny..
ReplyDeleteThanks for being a continuous Hooker :)
Thanks for stopping by, Molley! I love your weekly hop!
DeleteI was thinking your pockets sounded like the pockets of a five-year old boy and began to worry that you'd find a frog you stashed there years ago. Glad I was wrong.
ReplyDeleteLove the time capsule. Especially the Spock ear, as I'm a bit of a Trekkie. Sounds like that jacket had a great life!
It sure did! I love finding old momentos in purses and jackets like that!
DeleteToo funny! I always find stuff in my jacket pockets the following season. My big find was a $20 bill one year. Totally made my day! My son was once going through old backpacks to find one for himself (third child always gets hand-me-downs) and found quite a lovely surprise...a dead mouse! Needless to say, that backpack got thrown away!
ReplyDeleteOMG a dead mouse??? Gah!!!
DeleteHappy SITS day Marcia! Hope you are having fun.. I find all sorts of odd pieces and ends in my purse.. I hate to clean up my purse time to time so things I find in there sometimes are like puzzles for me to solve :)
ReplyDeleteI know, right? You try to remember what they are from--but that is what makes it so fun!!
DeleteThat's a lot of stuff to find in a jacket pocket! Too funny.
ReplyDeletep.s. If it were 60 degrees in January in Maine, we'd be outside in shorts!
Yes--we are very spoiled here in South Florida with our balmy breezes!
DeleteMy pockets are the purses of the past. Thanks for the cute post. Enjoy your SITS Day.
ReplyDeleteOh, I like the ay you said that! Thanks for stopping by for the read--i really appreciate it!
DeleteThat's awesome! I usually find tissues or a $5 bill. Sometimes I leave the money there on purpose just to surprise myself later!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE finding money I forgot about!
DeleteAs a professional organizer, I spend my days discovering hidden treasures. The clump of moss is unique though! Love it.
ReplyDeleteI love finding old stuff like that--brings back so many memories!
DeleteAre you seriously telling the truth? I mean, that is freaking CRAZY!!! I just love those items!! Those pockets must have been STUFFED!!! I love the idea of leaving for your kiddos the "treasures" and keep them guessing!!!
ReplyDeleteI seriously do that--just leave the stuff there for another year so I can look at it again and laugh!
DeleteWhew! The bottomless pockets. I usually only find soggy tissue, my eyeglass cloth, a few coins, and maybe some lipgloss. Enjoy your SITS Day!
ReplyDeleteThat's too funny! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteWow, that is,an exlectic mix of stuff. I've foumd strange things like that in my purse. I'm Jennice visiting from SITS!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
DeleteWhat a great story. I love how you left your memories here - so maybe when your future children are curious they'll find this blog entry and weave it all together.... So fun!
ReplyDeleteGlad to be here on your SITS day!!
I love leaving behind things that tell a story!
