Fly On The Wall Having Fun In Purgatory

Welcome to another edition of Fly On The Wall group blog postings hosted by Karen of Baking In A Tornado. Today, four bloggers are bravely opening the door to their homes so that you may get a sneak peek at what goes on behind closed doors!

The nosy fly buzzing around my house was super excited this week to see another Doyle grandbaby ushered into the world! My son's wife gave birth to a baby boy! This is our first grandson---we have two granddaughters from my oldest daughter, so you can imagine my joy at having a third little human being to love. As much as we hated the Covid lockdown, at least something good came from it.

I almost forgot that today was Fly On The Wall day since I have been so preoccupied waiting for this grandbaby to be born, but the fly DID overhear some interesting (and as always, weird) bits of convo this past month:

"Honey, where is my cellphone?"
"You ask that so often---I'm pretty sure it will be on your tombstone."

"'Look, I got a BOGO on french fries! Have some!"
"Yay, I can add them to my ever-increasing gallstone collection."

"Your skin looks a little weathered. Maybe you should use a facial scrub?"
"I need more than a facial scrub; I need a pressure cleaner."

"What kind of meat is this on the shishkabobs?"
"It's chicken, Why?"
"Kind of chewy. Tastes more like a cat kabob."
"When was the last time you ate a cat???"

"I REALLY need to go on a diet."
"Not me. I look down at my stomach with pride and know that I am a magnificent whale."

"Your talk-text messages are awful. Full of errors and jibberish."
"That's on you to figure out what I've texted."
"Sorry, but I don't know how to read Klingon."

"Wake up! Breakfast is ready!"
"What is it?"
"A LARGE bowl of oatmeal."
"The last thing I want to do is wake up and stick my head in a bowl."
"I bet you would if it was filled with coffee."

"Every time I have to go out and run errands it starts to rain."
"Of course it does because God doesn't love you."
"Neither does the devil, which means I'm stuck in purgatory with you."

All I can say is that if this is purgatory, it's pretty damn good. I'm happy to stay right where I am....with my crazy, fun-loving family.

Fly On The Wall In Photos

Welcome to another edition of Fly On The Wall group postings hosted by Karen of Baking In A Tornado. Today, six bloggers are welcoming you into their homes to catch a glimpse of what goes on behind closed doors.

Looking though the photos on my cell phone, I realized that the people in my family (plus their closest friends and their significant others) have trouble posing for "normal" photos. What I believe I have captured here is the true essence of life with the Doyles. No matter where we go, when we're all together and in one place, shenanigans occur. Which is why I feel so blessed to be a part of this crazy family. They are my heart and soul, and the fodder for the humor I write.

Just two siblings, wrestling in a nice restaurant......

My granddaughter channeling her grandfather

Is that your REAL smile, or did you just suck on a lemon?

I think your arm might taste good......

Cat got your tongue?

That's right---hide your face from the camera.

This is why we cannot have nice family pictures

Hey, can you give me a lift?

Is this a sequel to the Blair Witch Project?

I know you admire my purple hair, but was it really necessary to copy me?

What happens in the Doyle Tiki Bar stays in the tiki bar.

Because this family really does know how to make me laugh out loud.....

Fourteen Things To Expect When You Become Older

I've noticed a lot of changes in my life over the past few years, and I'm not just referring to a few extra pounds or menopause. My husband has noticed little changes in himself as well; his knees click when he gets up off the couch, and his back gives out whenever he tries to dance to anything sung by Pit Bull or Fetty Wap. This is what happens after you slide over the far side of the midlife hill. And it's only the beginning. Here are fourteen more things you have to look forward to in the not-so-distant future:

1. Your mailbox will be inundated with AARP invitations, LifeAlert ads and sales on cemetery plots.

2. You'll have the memory capacity of a goldfish.

3. If you're a man, your testicles will drop low enough to chafe your knee caps. If you're a woman, your breasts will look like two deflated pastry bags straddling your belly button.

4. You'll never leave the house without aspirin, floss, and antacids.

5. Skin tags and age spots will appear out of nowhere, which means you'll be visiting your dermatologist more often than you visit your friends.

6. You'll check WebMD at least once a day.

7. Your hair will mysteriously disappear from several areas on your body and leave you looking like a hairless cat.

8. You'll need to keep a handy stock of powders and thick creams for relief from chafing.

9. Every room in your house will be equipped with at least one pair of reading glasses, but you still won't be able to find any of them.

10. You'll be a sucker for every "miracle" serum advertised on TV to prevent your face from looking like a peach pit.

11. Most of the money you saved for retirement will end up invested in a good dental plan. Crowns, root canals and gum surgery will take the place of your dream vacation to Niagara Falls.

12. You'll need several shots of espresso to stay awake during the day and a dose of sleep medication at night to avoid playing mattress tag with Mr. Insomnia.

13. Viagra and menthol lubricants will become your best friends.

14. You'll feather your empty nest with extra cats, dogs, and possibly a few stray rodents.

Welcome to the far side of midlife!
