My Five Minutes Of Blogging Fame

Coming from a long line of sugaraholics, I have always relied on baking as a means to unwind after a long day. This past year I found another outlet---blogging---and it is just as good a stress reliever as a batch of double fudge, chocolate chip cookies (without all the calories).
I spend too much a lot of time on the computer searching for new blogs, and was fortunate enough to stumble upon one with similar ideas ("When the going gets tough, the tough get baking & blogging"), and I knew I had found a kindred spirit. I'm talking about Karen, who blogs at http://www.bakinginatornado.com. She writes an awesome, witty blog that includes yummy recipes at the end of each post. WARNING: don't go there hungry or else be prepared to salivate! Karen graciously offered me a guest blogging spot (post date 11/29/12) at her site and I was honored and excited to accept her invitation.
If you are one of my regular readers, please share the love and hop over to her site to read our collaboration. Karen is the real deal, folks. She's as sweet as the treats she bakes!
If you arrived from Karen's site to check out my blog for the first time, you're probably wondering who Menopausal Mama is and how the heck I scored such an awesome gig on Karen's blog. I can't answer that but I CAN tell you a little bit about myself:  I'm married to Robin Williams' long lost twin-separated-at-birth; I have 4 mini versions of my comedian husband and unabashedly write about their private lives and mishaps on my blog. I'm mostly menopausal-bitchy-tired-hot flashy, but on a good day have been known to mellow out over a bottle of wine in my backyard garden with friends. I have 6 chinchillas, a rabbit and a few dogs, and firmly believe that I am somehow related to Snow White because birds and squirrels eat right out of the palm of my hand. Seriously. (At least THEY don't care if I'm menopausal). I own way too much nail polish (hoarder), I make amazing (i.e. strong) margaritas, I have two-tone hair (yin & yang), love obnoxious earrings (way too many of those, too), chew my cuticles and avoid left turns at major intersections.  I sell Avon ("Ding dong, Avon calling!" Yeah, I'm one of THOSE ladies). I'm also OCD but a damn fine cook.  Humor is what gets me up in the morning (along with 3 cups of strong coffee). If you want to ride the humor train with me, check out a few of these posts (or just click on the titles of older posts on the right side bar): http://menopausalmother.blogspot.com/2012/02/facebook-fossil.html
http://menopausalmother.blogspot.com/2012/04/how-to-annoy-your-children.html

Thanks again to Karen for letting me kidnap her blog for a day. In the spirit of the holidays, I decided to share with her one of my favorite cake recipes that is in high demand in our household. You'll just have to hop on over to her site for a cup of coffee and a slice of cake to find out which one it is! Please visit Karen at: http://www.bakinginatornado.com

  1. All these accolades, I can feel my head swelling. I don't take Guest Posts lightly, I'm very protective of my blog as it's in its infancy, but I'm glad I took the chance and extended the invitation. You're so generous to have shared this most valued recipe and I'm honored that you were comfortable enough to share it's story. Thank you.

  11. Guest posting – what a great idea!! Maybe you and I should exchange blog posts. i could put you in my Paranormal Minds blog or my Your Weird Dreams blog. :) I have at least one good story about menopause, although most of mine would come from the peri-menopause stage when I was raising three teenagers at the same time. Maybe you could write something for my My Heart Blogs to You blog. Or my Product Favorites blog – not that you're a product, but your blog certainly is, and it is one of my favorites. What do you say, Mighty MenoMom (my Super Power name for you)?

    1. I am honored that you would ask! Of course I would do it! I like all of your blogs--I could write something non-humorous for your paranormal blog--from true life experience if that is something you might be interested in. Or I could write something funny for My Heart Blogs For You about menopause--you choose! Thank you of asking!

  14. I visit your page often. I didn't know we had a love of chinchillas in common. We had several of them at one time, but when Zeva came along the room they had was needed for her so we had to part with them. They are amazing pets and so much fun. My husband use to make cages for them all the time and chinchilla toys out of wood. He made a wheel that they could run on without getting hurt, chew toys, and so many other neat things for them.
Robin Williams is a mess, so if your married to a man like him, then that explains why you have such a great personality as well. (Behind every great man, is an even better woman.)

    1. Oh WOW!!! I love that you had chinchillas and that your hubby made their toys! SO COOL! I buy a lot of stuff for them--wish I knew how to make them. Chins make amazing pets--I love mine so much!

I love reading your blog....when I need a pick me up...way down here in rural South Georgia....yes....I know....but, someone has to do it....and it is the place of my birth...but, I digress....I have a smile, a laugh, or a cry...or all 3...and they are always good when I visit your blog. I also am a menopausal mother, and now a grandmother...my poor, poor grandchildren. Blessings, Deborah

  16. Love learning more about you! Do you mean wild birds and squirrels eat out your hand for real? That is a childhood dream of mine....seriously I would stand in my front yard, still as a stone, with bread crumbs in my hand, wishing and hoping for that blessed moment! What is the secret?

Thanks for linking up with us at the MTMmixer!

    1. They seriously do--but it has taken years for me to earn their trust. It doesn't happen often, though (with the birds). I have to stand there for a LONG time before they will approach me (the blue jays). Squirrels come to me real easy--I feed them frequently by hand but you have to be careful! I use peanuts for them--not seed--and they always approach me. You also have to have a lot of feeders in your yard. We are a certified wildlife sanctuary, so they feel safe here. Try it with the peanuts and see what happens!
