My charming guest today on Wacky Wednesday Writers is a funny writer I met on another blogger's site quite some time ago. Since I love anything to do with gardening and good food with some humor tossed in, I consider myself lucky to have found Talya Boerner of http://www.gracegritsgarden.com. She describes her blog as "ramblings from an Arkansas farm girl," and she makes you feel right at home when you stop by her cozy site. Talya has all sorts of fun things going on over there: funny stories from her childhood, decadent recipes, beautiful photographs from her travels and plenty of gardening tips, all with a twist of humor. Please welcome Talya to Meno Mama's house today and leave her some comment love!
Breaking Bad on Aging
Have
you read those cutesy sayings plastered on Facebook and Pinterest?
Things like oh
I love my laugh lines and gray hairs. They make me proud of where
I've been and who I've become.
I'm
stronger, wiser,
blah blah BLAH!
Check
this one out...
Yo. I
love Mark Twain, but what the heck did he know about being an aging
woman? (Sorry
about the yo-speak, but I've been watching tons of Breaking Bad
lately.)
Anyway…Yo.
What a crock of coping crap!
I'm
calling bullshit to the whole charade. I don't love my wrinkles. I
don't love that my freckles have spread into age spots.
I
want my firm, young body back, the one I thought
was
fat at the time...
I
want to be able to turn a perfect cartwheel without pulling every
tired muscle or piece of fat in my body. I want to eat cheddar
fries and drink beer with zero change in the scale. I want to
pull an all-nighter, ace an eight a.m. college exam, go to work, then
hang out until all hours with college friends.
I
want to have natural, free,
tow-headed highlights from the sun instead of worrying about the sun
bleaching out my fake, expensive lowlights.
No, I
don't want to go back in time, that's not what I'm saying. I enjoy my
life. I love that my children are grown, contributing, responsible
people. I am thrilled I get to write all day long. I love that I
don't much care about what people say or think when I walk the dogs
looking as though I just rolled out of bed. Because
I just rolled out of bed.
I
know this aging thing is part of the deal, not
afforded to everyone...
(another annoyingly popular Pinterest saying.) But my laugh lines and
gray hairs…
Yo.
No thank you.

Talya, this is true... I love the wisdom that comes with age.. I don't enjoy the wrinkles or gray hair... :-) ... I too want that firm body back that I thought was too fat... lol ... I am working at getting a healthier body back :-)
ReplyDeleteLaunna - I suppose it's a tradeoff…with each wrinkle comes wisdom? Or we think so anyway - LOL.
DeleteRight there with ya girl. Thank Gawd for that magical, beautiful poison called Botox and professional bleach to cover the grays. Now if I could just figure out how to cover up the bruises on my knees every time I take off my bra I would be in business.
ReplyDeleteOmg- they were handing out Botox at the State Fair of Texas this year! Maybe I should have tried it, but I ate another corn dog instead.
DeleteI've been at this aging thing a lot longer than you, and I still get surprised when I look in the mirror. I hate gray roots -- yes, I'll be blond a long time, wrinkles, and now jowls -- they're the worst. I repeat to myself, "I just want to age gracefully." But I'm not sure I know what that looks like! Besides that, it's not true! I want to look like I did at 30. I'd take 35.
ReplyDeleteI'll be blonde a long time too. Once you start, it's like crack yo.
DeleteTsk, tsk, tsk!! You young girls! Just wait a few more years. "Natural" is so much easier--even braless. Ahhhhhh!
DeleteSo True, Pat! Besides, I don't mind the gray. I earned every one of those gray hairs!
DeletePat you crack me up with your bralessness self! And Gayle, you aren't very gray and you look fabulous!
DeleteI know, right? Aging is not for wussies. Whoever coined the phrase "Golden Years" and "Life is just beginning" was full of it and obviously...NOT old. I'm definetly following you because (you can rest easy you ARE funny,
ReplyDeletehaha! Thank you for the follow and the vote of funny confidence:)
DeleteWhenever someone complains about getting older, I'm THAT GUY™ who says, "It's better than the alternative!"
ReplyDeleteI'm sure people hate me. :)
Actually I've been known to say that too…and it is true!
DeleteThat being said, I'd love to be able to stay up until 3 and still make it to work by 9:00, or eat pizza at 10 PM and not be up half the night with reflux, or not see the first signs of JOWLS while shaving.
ReplyDeleteJowls! Blech.
I hear ya, Gary! I deal with insomnia so I AM up at 3:00 & feeling like I have a hangover...when I didn't even have a drop of alcohol...so not fair....
DeleteUgh jowls. Mine are growing too. I forgot to mention that in the post.
DeleteYou are beautiful inside and out but 'life begins at 40'??? - bull!
ReplyDeleteThank you Colene! I suppose life begins again every day.
DeleteOh yes, can we keep the wisdom that comes with aging and have those bodies that we had to trade in too? ;) Much like having our cake and eating it - and now the fact that ate a lot of it is showing!
ReplyDeleteYes I want to have my cake and eat it Corinne:)
Deleteinteresting post...
ReplyDeletehttp://fashionwithfitness.blogspot.com
Yep, I don't want to go back, just worry less about the now!
ReplyDeleteBryan, you know you want to go back to Mrs. Key's English class…LOL
DeleteHow did you know about Mrs Key? Wow, that's spooky - you've really freaked me out now.
DeleteHey, us guys go through this too. I love where I am now in life but wish I had the body and bounce-back ability I had when in my 20's!
ReplyDeleteAs the saying goes = If I only knew then what I know now.
I very like to all gardening tips ! gardeners “This is an excellent example of taking brownfields and making it valuable for the community,” said Jonathan Phillips, executive director of the non-profit Groundworks Elizabeth, which has contributed funds to the garden.
